About the Event

The undiluted rich history of roots music origin comes to town in full revelation of the humble banjo!

Black Music Scholar and Ethnomusicologist, Joe Zavaan Johnson presents a multi-media lecture and performance that may challenge your assumptions about Old Time, Bluegrass and Country Music.

Very few can be lauded as expert in deep heritage music history and Joe, a Ph.D in Ethnomusicology, is one of them whose passion for the deeply cherished banjo has brought his presentation to top Universities, Forums and music academy's across the globe to high acclaim. A multi-instrumentalist, arts educator and Black music researcher, Joe's an amazing living example of music history, talent and inspiration.   The Northern Nevada Bluegrass Association, who's mission directly aligns with ours, spearheads this exciting partnership to bring Joe into Reno and to feature him here at Mountain Music Parlor.  It's indeed an honor to host top shelf music professionals and we hope you'll take advantage of this special time of music history coming to life.   **Friday, April 12, 7:00  Joe's Concert, ($15)  Workshops during the day.
